It all started from my childhood where we used to go to a children’s home (remand home for inmates) near our school. I always wanted to do something for these kids, didn’t know how and what ?
As I grew up and came to know that how deprived is the girl child in a country like India. I started thinking that I could at least give a better life to a girl child so sponsored for a girl child through CRY. Being a sponsor was that I am just giving financial help and I wanted to do something more than just this …. so decided to adopt a girl.
I started this process in December 2008. Many have asked me how did I do and what the process is etc here it is… there are four major stages.
Stage I:- Identify a adoption agency which is recognized by the government. Fill in the forms and submit your papers like the property documents, an undertaking from a family couple who would take care of the child if anything unforeseen happens to you and a police verification certificate where it says that you don’t have any police cases.
Stage II:- One of the social worker will visit your home to see if you are capable of taking care of the child. Once your home study is clear.
Stage III:- The agency will then show kids that would be compatible with you and you can choose the child that you like. The agency gives the child in foster care agreement and then the child stays with you.
Stage IV:- In week’s time you will have to fill in the petition saying that you would like to adopt the child and then the agency makes a home visit again to see if the child is safe and accepted you as a parent. The court will then set a date where the court asks questions to you and the child if she / he speak. The court judgment is final and will say that the child is legally adopted by you.
The first two stages I finished in six months time and then I was stuck as the agency with which I had filled in my papers didn’t have any girl child in the age group of 2-3 years. (there is a long waiting list for adopting children) So I moved my papers to another agency were they had some babies in that age but in their Jalana (60 Kilometers from Aurangabad) branch. The story after that is what you all know….. 2nd July Shradha was in my life.
